Smith Honored by Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce
Selected to Receive Godfrey Smith Past Chairman's Award
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 3, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Capital City Bank Group Chairman and CEO Bill Smith was honored yesterday before an audience of more than 400 business owners and community leaders at the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Annual Breakfast Meeting. Smith was presented with the Godfrey Smith Past Chairman's Award, an honor conferred annually by the Chamber to recognize an individual who has provided significant contributions to the business community before, during and after their tenure as Chamber chairman.
With more than two successful decades at the helm of the $2.5 billion dollar Capital City Bank, Smith has numerous professional accomplishments to his credit, but is also deeply committed to giving back to the community at large. Throughout his career, both before and since his 1996-97 term as chairman of the Chamber, Smith has navigated by a "put the community first and business success will follow" personal working philosophy. Ever motivated by the needs of the community, he has helped bring about many positive changes to benefit Tallahassee and its citizens.
This recognition carries special meaning for Smith as the award was named for his father, Godfrey Smith, the first recipient and the example by which all subsequent honorees are measured. Both a recognized business leader and passionate community advocate, Smith carries forward his father's legacy of honor, dedication and commitment to the community and demonstrates those ideals today.
In addition to the Capital City Bank Group and Capital City Bank boards, Smith currently serves on the Florida State University Athletic Board and the Southern Company Board. Formerly, he served as chairman of Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, City of Tallahassee Citizen's Advisory Committee heading up the Blueprint 2000 initiative, Florida State University Foundation and Economic Development Council of Tallahassee-Leon County. He is also a past president of the Florida Bankers Association and a former national president of the Florida State University Alumni Association.
